Update 51 – Water Tank Installed and Library Nearly Ready!

March 13, 2026. Another step forward for the project!

Earlier this week, the 10,000-liter water tank was installed, providing an important supply of rainwater for the school. The carpenters have also completed their work on the library.

The project has attracted great interest, and we are constantly met by positive and enthusiastic teachers and students. It is inspiring to see the support from the whole school community!

Update 50 – From Plans to Reality!

March 5, 2026. We have recently been working intensively behind the scenes on the next stage of the project at Prisons Primary School in Nakuru.

Last week we compared prices for building materials and negotiated with craftsmen, where our colleague Josephine was a great help in keeping the costs down. Construction of bookshelves, tables, and benches for the library has now begun, and a foundation for a 10,000-liter water tank has also been built.

Thanks to your support, both the library and the water tank will soon become a reality and make a big difference for the students.

Update 49 – Back in Nakuru!

February 13, 2026. We’ve just visited the school and had the pleasure of meeting the new principal, as well as the teacher who will be responsible for the school library that our project is proud to help finance. We also had our first meeting with the carpenter who will be building the bookshelves.

We also took a look at the room where the library will be located. There’s still quite a lot that needs to be done before the library can open — but every journey starts with a first step.

It was truly wonderful to be back at the school, welcomed by so many smiling students. The new principal made a very serious and dedicated impression, and we feel confident that our cooperation will continue to be just as strong and successful as before.

Update 47 – Field Work in Kenya February–March

January 19, 2026. During February and March, half of JODA’s board will be in Kenya to continue our important work on site. We are truly looking forward to returning to Prisons Primary School and resuming the practical work — and not least to meeting the students again after their long holiday.

Thanks to your generous donations, we are now able to take several important steps forward. During this period, we will focus on establishing a school library, which will give students better access to books and strengthen their opportunities for learning and development. At the same time, we will continue our ongoing support by covering daily school lunches for 32 students, helping to ensure that they can attend school with the energy and focus needed to learn.

We will also purchase and install a water tank for the school. By collecting rainwater, the school will be able to reduce its water costs while creating a more sustainable solution for the future.

We are incredibly grateful for all your engagement and support — it is thanks to you that this work is possible. Of course, we will keep you regularly updated on our progress, both via Instagram, Update and in our Facebook group:

Update 44 – Summary of the Board Meeting (November 23, 2025)

Judge Gavel, all elements are in separate layers and grouped. please visit my portfolio for more options.

November 24, 2025. The board reviewed the organization’s finances, which are stable, and discussed several development initiatives for the school in Nakuru. Three important decisions were made:

  • A school library will be set up at Prisons Primary School. Josephine and Dag were given full responsibility for organizing the library, buying books, and creating a lending system together with the teachers.
  • A 10,000-liter water tank will be purchased and installed to collect rainwater, with Josephine and Dag in charge of procurement and installation.
  • New school uniforms will be bought for the 11 pupils who were added to the lunch program in October, as well as 1 pupil who was previously missed.

The project continues to grow: 32 pupils now receive school lunches, 21 have received new uniforms, teachers from Sweden and Kenya have begun working together, and a donation of SEK 10,000 is expected. Sweden and Kenya have begun collaborating, and an upcoming SEK 10,000 donation is expected.

Update 43 – Turning Pages, Opening Minds – Our Next Step for the School

November 18, 2025. While the students enjoy their well-deserved holiday, our board is continuing to explore new ways to support the school and its pupils. One idea we are planning for the next year and excited about is starting a school library with novels in both Swahili and English to encourage and strengthen their reading skills. We will discuss this on our next board meeting.

We will probably start a fundraiser to finance this project.

We look forward to sharing more about this initiative with you soon.

Update 26 – Report from the Annual General Meeting

On May 25, we held our Annual General Meeting to review the activities of 2024.
In addition to standard meeting procedures, a report was given from recent school visits.

The overall impression was that the students are doing well, are grateful, and have improved in their academic performance. The principal expressed a wish for additional financial support for more students and other related needs.

Some of the students we support are in need of new school uniforms or replacement of worn-out items. It was decided that this matter will be discussed further with the school principal and a decision will be made at the next board meeting.

We also discussed ways to increase the number of donors. One suggestion was to reach out to our friends and relatives.
It was also proposed that a PowerPoint presentation about the project be created to facilitate communication and outreach.

Dag Berggren was elected Chairperson. Other board members elected were Glenn Hansén, Josephine Ondieki, and Tomas Wangui. Bengt Högberg was elected as Auditor.

After speaking with the head teacher (principal), we received a list of 21 students whose parents cannot afford to pay for their school lunches. Update 15 – On site in Kenya

January 20, 2025. On site in Nakuru we will now spend a few weeks organizing the office and developing criteria for picking the target school.
The weather is absolutely excellent, sunny, 29 degrees and moderate winds.

Update 14 – We need to strengthen our financial resources

January 5, 2025. The JODA project has gotten off to a great start, and more donors are joining all the time. However, we need more funds to begin the practical work. While we wait for more donors, we have contacted several Swedish foundations that support projects in countries like Kenya, especially those helping children and schools. We are hopeful about getting their support.

Update 13 – The association is officially registered

December 18, 2024. Today, we finally received our organization number from the Swedish Tax Agency. This means that the association is officially registered, and our donors can feel confident that we also comply with the rules set by the Tax Agency regarding taxes and fees for associations.

Thank you for your support!

Update 11 – Nakuru

November 2024. Nakuru is the capital of Nakuru County, located in Kenya’s Rift Valley Province. As of 2009, the city had a population of approximately 286,411 residents. Situated at an elevation of 1,850 meters above sea level, Nakuru lies within the Great Rift Valley’s scenic landscape. Nearby is Lake Nakuru, famous for its wildlife and the renowned Lake Nakuru National Park, a major tourist attraction.

Nakuru serves as our base of operations, and it is from here that we will coordinate and run most of our projects.

Update 10 – The Office in Nakuru

November 2024. This is the house in Nakuru where our office is located.

Update 9 – It Really Makes a Difference To Help Others

October 2024. The Headteacher of Nagis primary school called to thank us for the difference we have made for the children. She mentioned that the children are motivated by having uniforms and have not missed a single day of school. They are now more confident and happy to be in class and play with other children. She was so pleased that she felt compelled to call and share her gratitude.

Update 8 – AI-Generated Logotype

Update 7 – First Board Meeting

October 2024. The association had its first board meeting where, among other things, the bylaws were established. Appointed Tomas Wangui Lindell, Josephine Ondieki and Dag Berggren as board members.

Update 5 – Pride and Happiness in Turkana

October 2024. Some of the children who received their first school uniforms.

Update 4 – The Children With Their School Uniforms

October 2024.The children have received their uniforms, and the principal, shown in the left picture, shared these photos and expressed deep gratitude. Receiving school uniforms is a significant moment, and in the right picture, the parents/guardians wanted to be part of this special occasion as well.

Update 3 – School Uniforms Delivered

October 2024. Just over a week later, the school uniforms were completed and delivered. A local tailor from Turkana, shown on the left in the picture, made the uniforms. On the right is the principal of the school attended by the children.

Update 2 – Supporting Children in Turkana

September 2024. These children go to school up in the Turkana region of northwestern Kenya. Most of the people who live here are very poor and many of these very children are orphans. Of course, it will then be difficult to finance, for example, school uniforms, which is seen as very important in Kenya. We decided to donate money so that some of them could get school uniforms and feel like the other children at school.

Update 1 – Starting a Project

August 2024. Here we have just started talking about a project in Kenya. Josehine, with experience in the Kenyan school system, knew that there was a great need to create conditions for children to come to school. One way would be to organize school lunches.
