Projects and Partner Institutions

JODA School Project in Kenya launched its first initiative in 2024 in Turkana, located in northwestern Kenya.

Our primary focus is now on schools in the Nakuru region, wich started in early 2025,

Nakuru, approximately 160 km northwest of Nairobi, is home to our local office in the building to the right.

Our primary focus is to ensure that students in selected schools receive nutritious daily meals.

Beyond this, we actively contribute to improving the overall school environment through additional initiatives. These efforts include providing school uniforms, establishing libraries, setting up rainwater collection systems, and supporting the development of kitchen gardens.

We keep our donors informed about our projects through regularly updates on this page and on Updates.

Ongoing Projects

Projects at Prisons Comprehensive School

The project at Prisons Comprehensive School started in 2025. Below are activity reports, with the latest on top.

April 2026 – Expanding Our School Lunch Program – Supporting More Students

We have now increased the school lunch support from 32 to 40 students.
This increase may seem small, but it makes a real difference. A daily meal helps students focus, learn, and take part in school activities. It benefits not only each student, but also the school as a whole. When lunches are available, more families choose the school, leading to higher enrollment, increased funding, and a stronger overall economy.
We follow this work closely. We keep a list of all students receiving lunches, and during our recent visit, we met many of them in person. This helps us ensure the support reaches those who need it most.

March 2026 – Opening Doors to Knowledge

With the help of local craftsmen, the school has now received its very first library. The initial collection of books has been purchased, and the library has officially been opened and put into use by the first students.

The project has been a great success and has been warmly appreciated by the school management, teachers, and students alike.

February 2026 – Water Tank Installed

A water tank has been successfully installed and is now ready for use. With a capacity of 10,000 liters, it provides the school with a reliable supply of rainwater, supporting daily needs and improving access to clean water for students and staff.

December 2025 – Preparing for New Activities in 2026

During December, the students are still on holiday, so there is currently no activity at the school. However, we have begun planning for the coming year, with activities starting in February, when two members of the board will be on site in Nakuru. Thanks to generous donations received in December, we are able to finance the purchase of a large water tank. Water is expensive in Kenya, and a rainwater harvesting tank will be a great help for the school by providing access to affordable water.

We are also planning to establish a library at the school, including deciding what types of books to purchase and how the library should be organized. We plan to hire a couple of skilled craftsmen to build bookshelves and install the water tank. We have worked with these craftsmen before and know that they do high-quality work at a reasonable cost.

November 2025 – Gratitude That Touches the Heart

After the pupils received their school uniforms and another eleven children were included in the lunch program, we have been overwhelmed by heartfelt thank-you letters. The joy and gratitude they express go straight to the heart – our efforts truly make a difference! Below are some of their 31 letters, filled with genuine warmth and appreciation. Thanks to these contributions, the children gain better opportunities, more hope – and a smile on their journey toward the future.

October 2025 – More Children Receive a Daily Meal

Thanks to generous donations, we were able in October to expand our support to 32 pupils who now receive a free school lunch every day. Here are the new pupils who have happily joined the programme.

September 2025 – New School Uniforms Delivered

Just as the students returned from a long break, the new school uniforms were delivered. As you can see from the photos, the students were delighted.

August 2025 – New School Uniforms on the Way

Our support goes beyond school lunches. Many pupils also need new uniforms, an essential part of their daily school life and sense of pride. On July 16th, 2025, the local tailor visited the school to take measurements, making sure each child will soon have a well-fitting uniform — ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

The tailor’s visit was met with great excitement, and the students were all smiles as they gathered for a group photo with Josephine, our dedicated team member in Nakuru. Josephine is doing a fantastic job coordinating the work with the new school uniforms, making sure every child feels seen, cared for, and ready for school.

Now we are just waiting for the school uniforms to be manufactured.

April 2025 – Students have written to us and expressed their gratitude.

February 2025 – The reason why we started the project at Prisons Comprehensive School

Prisons Comprehensive School has had many children drop out to join informal schools, which don’t offer the same quality of education as public schools. The school lunch program helps keep children in school and encourages regular attendance.

JODA is helping Prison Comprehensive School in Nakuru by providing lunch to 32 children — we started with 21 children in the beginning, and in October 2025, the number was increased to 32. These are children who cannot afford to pay for the school lunch program. Some come from poor families and miss school because they can’t afford lunch. Often, they go to bed without a meal at home. With JODA’s help, these children will have better learning outcomes and attend school more regularly.

The goal of the program is to improve school attendance and learning. School meals are important for young children’s education. The school already has a lunch program where parents who can afford it provide local food and vegetables from a garden. They also have a temporary kitchen and two cooks who prepare the meals. JODA helps by supporting this effort.

The school was chosen because it is in a slum area called Gioto, which is very vulnerable and has significant humanitarian needs.

Completed Projects

Providing School Uniforms to Children in Turkana 2024

The first project began when the headmaster of Nagis primary school in Turkana reached out to ask if we could help provide school uniforms for about ten pupils. These children were either partially or completely orphaned, and we decided to step in and assist. The project started in September 2024 and was completed a few weeks later. The picture below shows some of the children and their guardians.

The headteacher, called a couple of weeks later to thank us for the difference we have made for the children. She mentioned that the children are motivated by having uniforms and have not missed a single day of school. They are now more confident and happy to be in class and play with other children. She was so pleased that she felt compelled to call and share her gratitude.

And of course, we also felt proud that the project was such a success.
